deHavilland Low Speed Wind Tunnel

University of Glasgow

The deHavilland wind tunnel is a low speed facility with a turn table that allows change in yaw, pitch and roll settings. It can be used to test half and full aircraft configurations up to angles of attack at decent max speed and meaningful Reynolds numbers. Very few facilities can provide data for rotating wings, propellers and helicopter rotors. The deHavilland wind tunnel is the only UK facility can deliver this kind of data. The University of Glasgow researchers are committed to providing high quality experimental data that can be relied on for numerical simulations. This facility is available to all researchers, from industry and academia.

The wind tunnel has a test section of 2.74 m x 2.1 m x 5 m. It has a platform 6-axes load cell beneath working section, and various capacity load cells. Data Acquisition: 192 channel simultaneous data acquisition (16 bit) at up to 500kHz. 64 channel simultaneous data acquisition (24 bit) at up to 128kHz. Outputs: Forces & moments, pressure, velocity (Stereo PIV for high resolution over large area – up to 1m x 1m).
