PIV Training Workshop

Date:
27th August 2024 - 30th August 2024
Location:
Southampton
Organisation:
University of Southampton
Host(s):
RJ Mitchell Wind Tunnel

National Wind Tunnel Facility workshop hosted by the University of Southampton. This four-day training programme will focus on PIV technique and applications.

The agenda covers classroom sessions and laser induction, tours at fellow NWTF facilities (i.e. Anechoic Wind Tunnel and Towing Tank), LED-based PIV lab in water flume, and a dedicated day per group of PIV hands-on experiment at RJ Mitchell Wind Tunnel.

This event is designed for experimental aerodynamics personnel interested in learning or improving experimental practices in PIV as a non-intrusive technique. Activities will include all PIV activities from hardware setup (including troubleshooting) to wind tunnel data acquisition.

The event will run at the University of Southampton across multiple facilities, primarily at RJ Mitchell Wind Tunnel at Highfield Campus – the largest university-owned wind tunnel in the United Kingdom. Due to space limitations, places are limited to 12 attendees, split into two groups for a better hands-on experience.

The workshop is free to attend for academic researchers working at a UK University. The fee for industry, and academics from non UK Universities, is £500. This includes lunch and refreshments over the four days. All attendees are required to cover the cost of personal travel and accommodation expenses.

Southampton is a major city in Hampshire near Winchester and the Isle of Wight, offering plenty of options in the area to explore during a visit. Travel to Southampton is possible by road, air or rail. Buses connect the entire city, and most UniLink bus routes stop at the University Highfield Interchange (a bus hub at the Highfield Campus), with direct bus routes to the central train station and airport. Paid car parking is also available onsite for visitors.

To register your interest in attending please complete the event registration form. Registration does not guarantee a place, attendance will be confirmed by email following review of applications by the University of Southampton. Only those who receive confirmation of a place will be able to attend due to limited capacity.

Registration for this event is now closed.
